As reported today in Politico the initial steps in improving the relations between Israel and Turkey are occurring under pressure from President Obama.
Bibi telephoned Prime Minister Erdogen and apologized for 'operational mistakes' that he said were made during the the Israeli raid on a Turkish-registered vessel carrying activists attempting to break the naval blockade of Gaza.
After the Obama inspired telephone call from the Israeli Prime Minister the two countries agreed to once again exchange ambassadors and Turkey will cancel legal action pending against Israeli forces.
President Obama's statement on the call:
"I welcome the call today between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister Erdogan," Obama said in a written statement issued as he departed Israel for Jordan during a trip to the Mideast. "The United States deeply values our close partnerships with both Turkey and Israel, and we attach great importance to the restoration of positive relations between them in order to advance regional peace and security. I am hopeful that today's exchange between the two leaders will enable them to engage in deeper cooperation on this and a range of other challenges and opportunities."
Thank you Mr. President for your efforts which are showing concrete results.
