Many of you know Nurse Kelley wrote a vigil diary for me when I had knee replacement surgery twice and coded and died and was on life support for three days last January. I believe the messages, the prayers, the lit candles and meditations were a tremendous life force for me and helped me heal. A community of love can do great wonders.
Well, I was in end stage renal failure Monday and Sara r wrote another beautiful vigil diary for me and once again, I have been made, if not whole, much better. I always reach out to Sara r when I am in distress. She is like a sister and a mother healer, along with her sister, Ann.
I had blood tests last Friday and the results came back Monday and I was told to go the the ER immediately. They took me in right away and before IV's or anything, they were giving me a drug to counteract the tremendously high potssium level I had as they were afraid it was going to give me a heart attack. They also shot insulin into me and then sugar to counteract the insulin, as potassium will also bind with insulin and leave the body. I was only in the hospital for two days, and now will need a delicate balancing act between my congestive heart failure and my kidney disease. I will have to carefully measure my fluid intake and balance out my diet so one illness doesn't overtake the other. I was in serious shape Monday and when I read Sara r's vigil diary for me, I knew why I got better so fast. I'm not discounting doctors and medicine, but I believe a loving community can heal the sick.
I don't yet have the energy to thank everyone, and I'd like to give a shout out to a few of you and all of you know I loved your messages and prayers. First off, to Joe Democrat - you are new to me and I love your handle. To my sister Vetwife, you are so strong and stalwart and always there when I need something. Thank you. Whenwego is also new to my life and has been very caring and considerate of me. Kitsap River spent time on the phone talking with me about dialysis options, which I don't need right now, but if we don't get this delicate balance right, I will and I know she will be there to help me. I feel one with her. Flumptytail, you hussy, so glad to see your well wishes. They mean an awful lot to me. Llbear - thanks for the beautiful prayer, it was both healing and soothing. Iamgumby and asym are two who sent money and they will be getting a private kosmail. Peregrine Kate - you have such burdens yourself and you are always there to lighten others. Bless you. Otteray Scribe. Thanks for my quilt message and forgive me for stupidly not realizing that even though I lost your e-mail address I can write you kos mail. And last, but by no means least, ridemybike, my dear one that appears periodically in my life and brings me joy. Thanks to all of you who commented. May you be blessed a thousand fold and know that I hold all of you in my heart. Thanks for reading. rachel
