Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread series that randallt and I try to deliver every Saturday morning. We would like this to become a hub for talking about our 4/20 meet up (that's just three weeks from today!) to help make it a great event. So please come say hi, talk about food, talk about what you would like to see at the gathering or what you would like to see us all get out of this opportunity. And for those not coming (we know you want to but you live in El Salvador), ideas are always welcome.
We would also like this series to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville could give us all a better sense of connection if nothing else. We hope, through this meet up, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
Three weeks doesn't seem that long. It does need to warm up just a bit more; but it's starting to look like it might just do that. Last week Randall posted an official start time of 1:00, with mention that some folks might want to show up earlier to help setup. He also mentioned on the radio show that kayakers sometimes grab the good spots there at the Bywater, so getting there early to stake claims on real estate seems part of the plan as well.
Tuesday was cold, and it was snowing most of the day. I went into town for a meeting at 3:00, bought some groceries, and returned home. On the way home I was thinking that the weather just wasn't going to work for returning to town later in the evening for the candlelight vigil. But I really wanted to go, I thought it was important to be there, so I left out in time to get there a little early.
Turns out it was standing room only. Every seat was taken and folks, including me, were lined up along the walls. If you've ever been in the sanctuary at the UCC church, then you know it's a good size room. There were a lot of people there.
A lot of good people. The room was full of loving, caring people. And I'm really glad I went; it was for me an emotional experience. It really brought home what the Supreme Court case meant; it was the commemoration of an important event in our history as a nation. The community of people there that night were filled with hope, love, and lifetimes of experiences in the quest for equality. It was very moving being there in that room.
The vigil was another one of the things that make Asheville such an amazing place to live.
Feel free to share with us anything going on around town that you think we might want to know about.
Enjoy your Saturday,
David

Hi folks, and thanks for this diary David! Not much to add, April 20th is in sight, things are coming together for a great gathering and I really think Spring is here this time! I have a couple of nice door prizes in store I think. Jeff Messer, our local radio host is coming and is trying to hook me up with his advertisers for some more swag. We have added a few Maybees and switched a few to RSVPs! TexDem and VeloVixen are our newest Maybees and Audri and Mr A have committed to making the meet up. Thanks so much! It is going to be incredible matching a familiar name with a newly familiar face.
Here is our New Day link in today's post by navajo. We are about half way down the list.
Have a great Easter weekend Kossacks far and wide!
