Rick Perry, the Tea Party and the Concerned Women for America of Texas held a rally in support of inequality.
Rather like the Conservative movement at the end of apartheid they know their time has gone, they still have some fight left but the battles are over. There is no more fighting. Marriage equality will go from County to Country, from sea side to sea shores. Discrimination is going.
Bigotry by statute is ending no matter how much the right screams, no matter which shore they come from.
While the US Supreme Court was hearing initial arguments on equal marriage , in Texas Rick Perry stood with a crowd of 250 bigots at a so called rally for "free dumbs, family and faith."
An annual event sponsored by Texas Values and Concerned Women for America of Texas.
Tea Bagger State Senator declared state Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels. "Our core values are being attacked on a daily basis … by government fiat in our courts and in our schools, ..... They want to redefine marriage between a natural man and natural woman the same way the want to redefine the Constitution. It’s just not going to stand with me."
It may not stand with her but if she does not want to marry a woman - or a man, then she does not have to. She can stay married to her tea and guns. As to redefining the US constitution - how many times have Republicans battled to change the constitution so it fits with their hate?
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said "Over our dead bodies are we going to let this state turn blue". Well, yes you get it, that is what will actually happen. It is what is actually happening now. The demographics confirm Texas as a blue state will arrive soon, over the soon to be a minority WASP Bigot population. Over their dead bodies. So why don't they buy more guns and books on how tax cuts can help stop it. Tax cuts cure everything after all.
Republican Ralph Reed Ralph Reed, who leads the Faith and Freedom Coalition said "If the court were to go to the most extreme case and strike down 41 state laws defining marriage as between a man and a woman by an act of judicial fiat, I think it will further polarize our politics, it will undermine the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, and it will likely spark a marriage equivalent of the pro-life movement that will spend decades trying to reverse the decision," Great use of the limited time of courts.
Outside of soon to be blue state Texas Steve Deace, a Republican shock jock in Iowa claimed that a Supreme Court decision in support of equality woy=uld turn the GOP Primaries in to a nuclear battle "This idea that some people have that the court is going to settle the issue in the Republican Party — it's going to do the exact opposite... It's going to raise the issue to Orange Threat Level, it'll be DEFCON 6…It will become the defining litmus test." Popcorn anyone?
Equality is coming, just like stupid Coca-Cola ads during those said holidays. You cannot stop the march of equality. The GOP knows this. They will tear themselves apart as a result but if as Tony Perkins and Mike Huckabeepromise, they walk from the GOP WHEN marriage equality passes, that is ONE battle over and I have a delightful song (NSFW) to play them on their way out.
