Announcing a new quilt auction bidding group: the "Keep It Going" group.
I'm hereby creating a bidding group whose objective is to win the auction so that we can then SPONSOR A DRAWING for the quilt (hence the name, Keep It Going).
IF we win the auction, the eventual DRAWING would be opened up to all Kossacks who choose to participate--and also maybe even to folks who attend NN13, though I cannot make promises along those lines yet. There would be two ways to obtain an entry in the drawing--either by making a contribution to Okiciyap, or by writing a brief statement about why support of Okiciyap matters.
Each person who joins this bidding group will be entitled to one entry per every $10 that he or she contributes to our bidding pool for the auction. Similar opportunities would be made available to later contributors, that is those who take part in the drawing by donating funds or by writing.
This idea came to me because I thought of how my second DKos quilt came into my possession: I contributed $10 toward Darcy Burner's primary campaign, via a drawing for the quilt that Sara and Ann made from signature squares obtained at NN12. Astonishingly enough, I won it!
Here, Okiciyap could potentially be big winners yet again. They would have the auction proceeds, the donations contributed along the auction campaign, and THEN (if we win the auction) the drawing proceeds as well.
I am willing to kick off this group by contributing $100 toward our available funds to bid. (Thanks, ProvokingMeaning, for being in support ;)
If you are interested in joining this group, please contact ME, peregrine kate, via Kosmail. I am the contact person for the group and will handle all the internal arrangements necessary.
Please feel free to spread the word about this new bidding group, too. Our objective, after all, is to bring in as much money as we can for Okiciyap through this magnificent quilt. The more bidders, the merrier.
EDIT: I'd like to add one more thing for the sake of clarity. In case we do win the auction and the quilt will be available for a drawing, I am hereby declaring myself ineligible to take part in it. (The same is true for ProvokingMeaning, my husband, just to avoid any ambiguity. Eventually he will post a comment to go on the record to that effect.) Thanks!
UPDATE, Sunday morning: I have changed the text of this diary to reflect more current information about how we would need to run a DRAWING for the quilt, if we were to win the auction. Thanks to the little bird who raised the issue to me.
