Jeff Flake dropped a bombshell on Meet The Press today. He said that while he opposes same-sex marriage, he thinks the GOP will eventually have a candidate who supports it. See it here:
That sound you may have heard sometime around 9:30 am Eastern was a lot of fundie heads exploding. Conventional wisdom held that the religious right would effectively veto any Republican candidate who was the least bit favorable to gay rights of any sort. Remember, all indications are that Rob Portman got ixnayed as Mitt Romney's running mate due to his unabashed support for his openly gay son Will.
Several fundies have already warned that if the GOP bends even a little bit on gay rights, they may leave the party. Well, Flake may have just called their bluff.
