It takes real leadership to speak truth to power, and Tim Huelskamp, Congressman from Kansas "Big-1" who has run UNCHALLENGED through the last two cycles, comes out and tells us what is really going on with the USSC case regarding DOMA:
If at least five Supreme Court justices do not resist the temptation to legislate from the bench, they might overturn Proposition 8 and DOMA. If that happens, the high priests and priestesses of political correctness will have done irreparable harm to yet another pillar of the American paradigm for our patriotic, wholesome culture — “God, the flag, mom and apple pie.”
I guess they all hate mothers and pie. I admit, I'm much more a cobbler fan myself (and of the blackberry variety) but this has got to be serious now.
There is a certain brazen nature to his research which really catches my eye.
Sen. Obama was right; President Obama is wrong. There is overwhelming social science evidence to corroborate the benefits of raising children in homes with both a mom and a dad. Who among us does not know there are differing parenting styles between men and women and that children deserve both? Government, both federal and state, has a legitimate and defensible interest in ensuring that children conceived by a mother and father are, in fact, raised by their biological mothers and fathers whenever possible.
He has OVERWHELMING scientific research over a long period of time which validates this claim in comparative studies. He just, you know, doesn't have an ability to cite or reference them on hand, but no problem claiming they exist.
I had realized that gay marriages might mean changes, including a big rash of reality shows that give us two bridezillas and a big boom for the wedding industry. This of course goes beyond the basic reasons of love and asset management as well as the rights of an individual, as Huelskamp doesn't discuss those...
But I had never seriously contemplated that there would be an end to Apple Pie.
Now, I'm not saying I'm going to change my opinion, like I said, I'm not an Apple Pie fan.
But with his editorial and tons of validated evidence (which he doesn't cite), the conclusion about the death of Apple Pie and America is pretty tough.
I had to ask a friend who I know to be gay if she liked apple pie, and she told me she also dislikes Apple Pie, and she likes mostly lemon or peach.
It's only anecdotal data, but maybe that's all he has.
Maybe Huelskamp will have to learn to love Key Lime and Cobbler. Worse things could happen... or maybe the Gay and Lesbian coalition will just decide they like apple pie out of spite.
It's hard to know just yet.
