Good Morning and Welcome to Morning Open Thread
Graeme, my Australian friend who lives with his beautiful wife, Noi in Thailand along with a rag-tag pack of dogs that adopted them, e-malied me another dog story. So, Sit, Stay and Read.
I made sure the story was authentic (it is), but it occurred last August so it's not "new" news. Well, it is "new" news to me and perhaps y'all as well.
A car bomb went off in a residential section of Santa Rosa de Temuco, Chile, last August. One home was set ablaze from the explosion, the home of Amanda, a German Shepherd mix. Amanda was a new mother, she had five 10-day old puppies.
Amanda's instincts kicked in and she began to transport each of her young pups out of the burning home and into the safest spot she could find -- one of the fire trucks that had responded to the emergency.
Showing incredible bravery this canine mother raced back into the burning home over and over again, returning each time with one of her pups in her mouth.
Finally, she had rescued them all.
As the firefighters continued to battle the blaze in the home, Amanda completed her own rescue mission. All of her babies were safe.
Mother dog climbed up the steps, into the fire truck and curled her body around her pups to further protect them.
Onlookers were amazed! One of them called an emergency veterinarian service and was advised to bring them all in for examination.
Once under proper medical care, one puppy called Amparo, who had suffered severe burns, died. The other four pups and their mom, Amanda were doing very well.
The vet, Felipe Lara, told Soy Chile that Amanda had defended her puppies when they tried to take them away from her to care for them.
What an amazing story! And to think, people call them "dumb" animals.
