Received this e-mail today from Congressman Ed Markey (D. MA-5) who is running for Secretary of State John Kerry's (D) old Senate seat in the Massachusetts special election:
When you're 30,000 feet in the air, the rules are different. September 11th, 2001 showed us exactly how much damage could be done with even small weapons on a plane. Since then, passengers have not been allowed to carry knives of any size onto planes.
But now, the Transportation Security Administration is about to let them back onboard.
Thanks to a TSA rule change, small knives will be allowed on aircraft starting April 25th.
TSA screeners think this is a bad idea. Flight attendants, pilots, and a good number of the major airlines in this country think this is a bad idea. I think this is a bad idea.
And if you think this is a bad idea, too, I need you to speak up right now. Tell the TSA: no knives on planes.

TSA screeners currently confiscate about 2,000 knives from airline passengers each day. That means the TSA is about to write a boarding pass for about 730,000 knives every year.
The 9/11 Commission credited “failures of imagination” as part of our failure in preventing the tragic events of that day. It doesn't take much imagination to see how allowing almost three quarters of a million knives onto planes every year is a mistake.
The rule changes on April 25th. Tell the TSA right now: Keep the knife ban in place.

The TSA needs to hear from you.
They need to know that you don't want longer lines at airport security, while TSA screeners try to determine which knives are allowed and which aren't. They need to know you don't want to worry every time you step onto an airplane.
I'm doing everything in my power to see that knives stay off our airplanes. But only you can turn up the pressure on the TSA. Click here to add your name today:

Thank you.
