You know, I wish I could work. I'd love nothing more than to be able to work a full time schedule so that maybe I can actually pay into services like Medicare and Social Security.
Despite being unemployed for close to seven years now, I'd held a few jobs here or there. There were two main problems with those jobs: a.) I was usually put on a part time schedule because with my disabilities, full-time work was near impossible, and b. During slow seasons, what little hours I did get were usually slashed wholesale just so employers could save a couple of bucks or c.) I was terminated outright because I couldn't handle the work.
I went to college to become more 'marketable', but I still have yet to get past square one.
Here's what 'marketable' really means: Hiring managers want you to lie to them. You can tell them you'll bring nothing but your best, but really, they just want you to tell them what you want to hear. In other words, they want you to say whatever will make them see dollar signs.
Sorry, but that isn't what I'm about. I don't want to market anything. I'm not a salesman and I sure as hell have no wish to ever be one. I just want to make a decent living and help better my community at the same time, but I guess that's just a pipe dream too.
See you around,
Homer
