Good morning GUSabsurdists!!! I am so sorry I've been out of the loop -- including missing my Sunday post. I was in Baltimore at a fun Drama Conference. The guest speaker was Edward Albee who is, perhaps, the greatest living American writer of plays and other stuff. Noooooo -- I won't engage in confrontation as to who is the best living American play writer person.
First, the important stuff:
GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are quitting or thinking of quitting, please -- join us! We kindly ask that politics be left out.
You can also click the GUS tag to view all diary posts, or access the GUS Library at dKosopedia for a great list of stop-smoking links. Check it out! GUS library.
A message to ALL quitters. You don't have to avoid GUS if you have a failed quit. We won't give you a bad time and we consider the failed quits as "practice" for the real quit.
Quit Keeper widget which is an outstanding aid for those beginning the difficult path to quitting. It lets you know how long you haven't smoked, how many cigs you haven't smoked, how much money you've saved.
Quit Smoking Counter h/tGDbot. For those of you who have had a problem with Quit Keeper or want a different counter!
I went to the Comparative Drama Conference in Baltimore with my good friend (former domestic partner). He was giving a presentation -- he's always brilliant so why give up the opportunity? My first career was teaching English Lit. Then, more global lit. I loved it and still love everything (almost) to do with literature.
Part of the program was a play at Center Stage. They have 2 theatres -- a large one for the main season productions and a "smaller" venue for alternative season productions. We saw one of the all time worst plays I've attended (agreed to by my buddy). I have a problem when plays by "feminists" with "feminist" themes are given a free ride. The play sucked hugely but was a good source of conversation.
The finale of the conference was supposed to be Edward Albee in person but he was not feeling well and asked to do his presentation via interwebz. They chose Skype which is blockyish and halting but worked for the purpose of the event. Two "professors" alleged that they were Albee experts. Their questions were utterly moronic and Albee, in a very humourous manner let them know how stupid most of the questions were.
Here's one at the end:
"What is your world view?" Huhhhhhh???????? He's someone who lived for 85 years and you want him to give a soundbite about his world view?????????
Ok, here is Albee's verbatim response -- I wrote it down word for word:
We're better off with Democrats.
I'm still swamped but today was the first day in a month that I didn't have that chest tightening anxiety attack feeling.
Much love to you all -- I have a full day when this is posted. I'll try to check in when I can.
OMG!!!!!! My last diary forgot all the important stuff like the buddy list and schedule. So sorry. Here they are
