I saw this on the local news last night after the hoop game but it was too late for me to start a diary at that hour.
CBS affiliate WFSB and other local news outlets are reporting that Bloomfield, CT Police have arrested a man Monday afternoon after he pulled out a BB-gun as President Barack Obama's motorcade approached the area.
The firearm turned out to be a BB-gun, but officers did not know that at the time, and they tackled the man, according to sources. This happened near the intersection of Charter Avenue and Cottage Grove Road as the motorcade passed.
No one was hurt. The Secret Service will be coming to the police department to speak with the suspect. The suspect was reportedly pacing back-and-forth as the motorcade approached, and then pulled out the BB-gun.
Police have not released the name of the suspect.
The President's motorcade was returning to Bradley International Airport from a rally at The University of Hartford where he was celebrating the passage of CT's landmark gun control legislation with CT Governor Dannel Malloy and families of the Sandy Hook students and teachers slain in the December 14th school massacre. Some of the victim's family members were also in the motorcade. They were heading to DC, aboard Air Force One with the President, to support passage of federal gun control legislation.
Perhaps this is a case where a background check kept a real gun out of the hands of someone who didn't need to have one. Most likely not, since I believe checks are only required for handgun purchases.
This is pure unhinged gun nuttery. Was this idiot trying to make a point? Surely they had an idea of what happens when you have anything that remotely resembles a firearm anywhere near the president.
