We at at the Knowledge Democrats group are continuing to publish regular Congressional District Assessment Diaries so we can get an understanding of all the current GOP-held districts.

However, what would make our lives a lot easier is if we just simply laid out all of the currently-held GOP seats in Congressional districts in order:

Which ones already have Democratic challengers?
Which ones have Democrats who are considering challenging?
Which ones really don't have any Democratic challengers?

In addition, below for each state with GOP-Held Seats, there are some comments left, along with contact information of state Democratic parties which are deemed to need more activism and fire in their troops given the demographics and industries of the states.

Here's what we have:

Alabama 1st Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.
Alabama 2nd Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.
Alabama 3rd Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.
Alabama 4th Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.
Alabama 5th Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.
Alabama 6th Congressional District - No challenger as of yet.

Feel free to point out any candidates we're missing from the list.

Aside from that, we are keeping a close eye out for all Democratic candidates, even the ones not normally covered on Daily Kos and not officially endorsed by Democracy for America.

The goal is, we'd like ALL of the GOP-held seats to have Democratic challengers and it doesn't matter whether or not these people have funds.  We just want to support them but of course, we'd much rather support progressive Democratic candidates because, well, we agree with their politics.  Yes, we know the obvious: Deep red districts are impossible to win.

In our view, it doesn't matter how conservative a district is.  We need to fire up the base no matter how red the region is.  If we win certain races, great.  If not, what do we have to lose to nominate candidates in all districts across the country?

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:

  •  You are incorrect (9+ / 0-)

about Colorado's 6th district.  Andrew Romanoff has announced his candidacy for that district against Mike Coffman.  Andrew Romanoff is a fine progressive and has already raised over 500K without taking any special interest or PAC money.   Mike Coffman, is a birther, anti-choice, anti gun regulation, pro defense Dick Wadhams protege.  Andrew deserves our full support.

  •  thanks for this. I think in districts like these (4+ / 0-)

there has to be educational efforts. If you'd like, kosmail me. I'm working on something that may begin to fill that gap and maybe we could begin reaching out to the Democratic parties in these "impossible to win" districts to begin the process.

  •  NY 23 challenger (0+ / 0-)

    Just announced this week,

Democrat Martha Robertson of Dryden formally announced her candidacy Friday for the 23rd Congressional District at Wisner Park in Elmira.
    http://www.stargazette.com/...
  •  NY-11 has a challenger (0+ / 0-)

Term limited out of his City Council seat, Councilman Dominic Recchia announced 3 weeks ago that he will take on ethic challenged Michael Grimm.  There are some problems.

Recchia lives on the Brooklyn side of the district (and the very end part of the district at that) which is the entire borough of Staten Island and several areas in Brooklyn.  S.I. voters are very territorial and feel that this is THEIR representative and he (or she) should live on the Island.  2 years ago Recchia's home wasn't even in the district but this may have changed with the new district lines (I'm looking into this).  Of course, with his term ending on December 31, 2013, Recchia can move to S.I. where his mother and sisters live.

Recchia is a typical Brooklynite and while there's nothing wrong with that (I'm also from Brooklyn and, in fact, live about 1 1/2 blocks from Recchia) since many Islanders also came from Brooklyn, those who have lived on the Island all their lives resent the "new" residents even those some of them maybe living there 30 or 40 years!

Also, Recchia is a pawn for developers and his ties to the Sitt family are very well known.  In fact, he would sell his first born for them.  He was planning on running for Borough President but changed his mind.

Recchia does have about $450,000 currently for this seat and the DCCC has hot listed this race so he'll get help from them.  In 2008 Recchia was looking to run for this seat but that's another story which I don't want to get into right now. Actually, we should have won this seat in 2012 but we had a very weak candidate named Mark Murphy who didn't campaign and only sent out, I believe, 2 mailings.  Grimm has ethic problems and is being investigated for taking contributions from non citizens living in Israel but this investigation started about 2 years ago and still no indictment.

He is pretty progressive, but he's also a bully and can come across as nasty.  Even so, unless another Democrat enters the race he's all we have.

Fine with me so long as Nancy Pelosi gets back her damn gavel.

      •  Living in Brooklyn (0+ / 0-)

Makes Recchia the wrong choice to run for this seat.  If you read the Staten Island Advance you'll see the complaints about his residence top everything else.

        •  How about this? (0+ / 0-)

Get Recchia to run and get the Democrats their own seat, then primary him later?

The way I see it, I am grateful for the contributions that Rahm Emmanuel has given the Democratic Party, particularly with fundraising and being a team player.  However, he's also not a pleasant person to be around with and has really been a rather arrogant Mayor of Chicago.  I wouldn't go so far as to say Emmanuel is like Oakland Mayor Jean Quan but like Quan and maybe Recchia, Emmanuel is cocky and really seems to use the power of office as way to show he's in power.

I believe being progressive means you're forward thinking but you also go against being cocky and arrogant.  The term progressive goes beyond just political views.  It's also attitude.

          •  Never happen (0+ / 0-)

The "machine" won't allow an challenge to Recchia but you'll see, Recchia won't win because Staten Islanders will never vote for a candidate on the Brooklyn side of the district.  FYI, there are more Dems in the district than Republicons but they are DINO's and only joined the Democratic Party because they had to for their union jobs.

            •  Then go against the machine. (0+ / 0-)

Destroy the machine.  Get people at all levels around to take the machine down.

I wonder if it helps if say we push for there to be a 1 or 2 year moratorium on lobbying in D.C.  Maybe then it would give Congress a wake up call to actually do its job.
