If not now, then when?
For years we have been waiting for you to take you place in the sun. The Blue dogs pretty much ate your lunch on healthcare reform, your budget proposals over the years have been widely ignored.
You are way too large to be such a consistent non-factor in any policy discussion, especially within the Democratic party.
It's high time for you folks to start using your elbows and jamming your faces in front of any microphone or TV camera you can find. It's past time that you demand that your budget proposals get a real airing in the media. It's time for you to demand to be heard.
If you can't even fight to save the most popular and effective govt. program that your party has ever designed, then seriously, what the hell good are you?
I realize that the media tends to have it's favorites. Chuck Schumer and John Mccain spend as much time on TV as most sitcom actors, but you can't let that be an excuse.
Call up all the talking head shows and insist that you be allowed to talk. Issue press statements every hour if you have to. Use Twitter and other social media, but get heard. If you can't manage to rise to the occasion now, and make it plain that the Democratic party is far from united on president Obama's cuts to Social Security, and that you as a caucus will do all you can to fight it, then seriously, what is your point in existing?
Issuing a press statement that will be instantly ignored won't cut it this time.
We need to see you in the fight every day.
