Good Morning and Welcome to MOT-Morning Open Thread
Usually when I have a Tuesday MOT I share an email from Graeme, my Australian friend who lives with his beautiful wife, Noi in Thailand along with a rag-tag pack of dogs that adopted them. Today I am sharing an email I sent him instead, about Maddie. Maddie the Coonhound who stands on things.
Theron Humphrey, a professional photographer found himself at a crossroads. His grandfather had just died and he'd recently suffered a break-up. It seemed like the perfect time to embark on his Kickstarter-funded project called
This Wild Idea, which involved traveling to all 50 states, photographing one person a day over the course of 365 days.
Before starting out, Humphrey decided he needed a travel buddy and a dog would be a perfect choice so he adopted Maddie, a coonhound he found on Petfinder. Maddie became his front-seat companion and occasional icebreaker. “I had to convince people that I was trustworthy,” Humphrey says, and Maddie was a perfect wingman.

One day Theron decided to take a classic photo to commemorate the trip, a
man dog and his car. He placed Maddie on the car and surprisingly she stayed. “I was like, okay, what else would she stand on? Will she stand on this trash can? Will she stand on the fire hydrant? It just grew and snowballed from there.”
In December 2011 he posted a photo of Maddie standing on four soup cans and it attracted viewers far outside his circle of friends and family. As he began posting more photos, his friend bought him the domain name maddieonthings(dot)com and from there his fan base grew. Somewhere along the way the idea of a book, Maddie On Things, occurred to him and he suddenly had a new project.
