This story is old. I'd mentally filed it away way for a potential Top Comments diary back in January, when it first went viral on Tumblr. And now that my brain is not working and I am not coming up with anything good to write about tonight, it's a perfect opportunity to post it, since I'm reasonably sure many people haven't seen it yet.
Follow me below the writer's block that has been smashed by my fist...

Fifteen-year-old Laurel, who also has a really awesome Tumblr devoted to her my freaking everybody's hero Ellen DeGeneres, was faced with a terrifying task earlier this year. It's something that often goes well, but also often goes terribly wrong and results in untold pain. Laurel needed to come out as a lesbian to her parents.
Well, kudos to her, because she found one of the most creative, hilarious ways to come out: with a cake and a note. Here is how she did it:
Good morning parents, I'm gay. I've wanted to tell you for a long time. I thought doing it this way would be a piece of cake. I hope you still love me. I mean, it's hard not to love someone who baked you a cake.
All my friends know and still love me. Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake. I hope you, much like this cake, are not in tiers.
I hope we can look back on this and say "boy, this one really takes the cake."
It gets batter.
Love, Laurel (sorry for so many puns)
In case you're wondering how it went over with her parents, here are her
Tumblr updates:
Cake update:
My mom saw it and cried of happiness. We hugged and cried together. Then, we all ate the cake and talked. I am very luck to have such supporting parents and to have so much support from you guys. Thanks everyone! Have a gay day!
Cake update:
My dad saw the cake and came into me room and hugged me and laughed. He said he loved me and the cake and the letter and everything was perfect. Brb crying
Of
course it went well--how could anybody reject a girl armed with a punny cake?
If that doesn't warm your heart, nothing will. If only all coming-out experiences went so smoothly.
But it's getting better batter.

This comment by native is short and self-explanatory.
From Chrislove:
In my diary about Pat Buchanan's call for "a new era of civil disobedience" against LGBT rights, Free Jazz at High Noon and Bob Love both make me laugh in the comments.
