I'm a disabled writer and artist, born with Arthrogryposis (AMC), making a comic book with my mouth.
If I can serve as an example to kids with AMC - or anyone else, for that matter - that we can do anything we want, I'll be very happy to know I've helped.
This community has been very supportive of me over the years - I've been around since the Haloscan days of Howard Dean - and I consider it to be an online home. I've been struggling during those years just to get by, and you've helped me with food, with an air conditioner, with paying bills, on many occasions. I'm not sure we'd still be alive if not for the help you guys have given my family.
Today I'm on the verge of success, of finally digging my way out and beginning a career and a new life. Next week I'll be negotiating terms with a publisher to make my comic book series a reality. It's been a long time coming, and it's only the first step, but it's a real break and a real shot at a better life.
I'm running a Kickstarter for the next 5-issue volume of my series. The soonest my potential publisher could get my book in comic shops is September, and the soonest I'd see royalties is likely November. Things have a 4-month process (or longer!) in comics, and so I'm trying to pull together the funds to see me through the stretch. Some really big names in comics are contributing to the effort, offering sketches or writing backup stories for me, and more are coming.
Thank you all again. I think I've finally got a foot (wheel?) in the door. It's because of YOU that I'm there.
