Short diary to express a big concern.
I got up at 6 a.m., which is usually the middle of the night for me, and heard about the violence and huge police search in the Boston area for the Boston Marathon bombers.
At this early moment, the media have started reporting that the bombers are brothers, 19 and 20, legal permanent residents of the United States, Muslims from Chechnya.
As an immigration lawyer, I'm waiting to hear that they have a parent who is a professor at MIT or Harvard and that they got their green cards as derivatives (children).
They keep saying they have military training, which seems odd to me.
I just want to register my concern that this may have a very negative effect on Comprehensive Immigration Reform. It has been looking like we might have the first major (and desperately needed) immigration law reforms since 1990. But it's hard to imagine getting anything like that through the House of Representatives if these bombers actually turn out to be foreign Islamic terrorists.
Crap! I thought it was going to be anti-tax teabagger types.
