Hello this is my first post on this site and I hope my ideas can match those of others here. The reason I write this is because I am tired of seeing the liberals being painted as snobs, intellectuals, feminists, radicals, people who want to impose their ideas on others. I'm sure everyone here knows these seeds were all planted by a democrat george wallace. I truly believe wallace was a democrat or a populist. Unfortunately he directed his anger at the intellectuals, hippies, and liberals who he claimed look down on the common folk. He never went after the outsourcing corporations who were gaining power at the time. Republicans have taken his ideas and ran with them and have dominated congressional elections in the south. As Thomas frank writes in "what's the matter with Kansas"
“For decades, Americans have experienced a populist uprising that only benefits the people it is supposed to be targeting.... The angry workers, mighty in their numbers, are marching irresistibly against the arrogant. They are shaking their fists at the sons of privilege. They are laughing at the dainty affectations of the Leawoof toffs. They are massing at the gates of Mission Hills, hoisting the black flag, and while the millionaires tremble in their mansions, they are bellowing out their terrifying demands. 'We are here,' they scream, 'to cut your taxes.”
They believe the priviledged snobs are the intellectuals who want to shove their idealogy down other people's throats. Wealthy people who believe they know what's best or Tell others how to live, with their fancy coffees, wines, and contemptuous views of others. Of course wall street is exempt. This of course is unfair and can be changed. In order to win southern seats which can be used to push new spending on education, infrastructure, manufacturing, alternate energy and also tax rates near the reagan era, 50 percent to reduce the deficit. The question is how to get people to the table to vote democrat and that is by understanding the way wallace won votes over. The fear these voters have now of a new country where immoral decay is rampant, where abotion is universally on demand, where a bunch of intellectuals teach your children values that they believe are right and make decisions about how you live. They fear an undisciplined society where one can't tell the difference between sexes and where government tells you what you can and can't eat pr what you can't say. These are all faults of the free market and materialism but these middle class individuals feel liberals are controlling the world. The way to win back the working class in my view is by directing this fear back at wall street Profiteers. Pointing out that any sharia law believing death to america pushing Arab sheik can put money all over wall street with no questions asked. The point should be the free market leads to our cultural decline and must be stopped. That wall street bankers are more than happy to have abortion clinics built all over the country like Starbucks so long as they get a return on their investments. Factories close, abortion clinics open, wall street still makes pay day. And their fine with it because it doesn't matter what kind of Country thus is, Christian or not wall street still cashes in. See those Viagra pills and new condoms as long ad the Corporations profit they will peddle them all day and night. Morning after pill vending machines will soon grace our streets we must say unless wall street pays higher taxes and we reinvest in america. And of course the fact that wall street appointed supreme court justices decide whether or not abortion is legal or who the president is(bush). All this can be stopped only if we stop people from being in debt and provide a stronger education, manufacturing jobs and infrastructure as debt and ignorance will lead people to choose a godless path one that wall street will accept so long as they make their big bonus checks.
"I hope the rich and powerful don't take over now."
George wallace, last day as governor
I'd like to make it clear that i don't support wallace segregationist rhetoric and ideas but I do believe his skillful reverse populism has changed the country. unfortunately Wallace never channeled the anger at the corporate union bashers that were about ready to unleash their fury.
