Serious negotiations are underway to sell the Los Angeles Times to the Koch Brothers. You all know who they are—
Here’s the story:

For those of you who would greet that news with “So what? Newspapers are dead anyway” I would say that the Kochs can pour hundreds of millions of dollars into the paper just for the—
a. Tax write-off (business loss)
b. Ability to literally hogtie access to news in Southern California
A Koch-operated L A Times would spew red ink but the Kochs couldn’t care less. They could even lower the daily price to 10¢ a copy, which would drive circulation back up, and then have a gleaming pipeline for their sewage into half the homes of L A County. Just look what they did in Wisconsin, where they don’t really have a dog in any fight up there. Not only got Scott Walker elected and a radical savaging of the lower and middle class by the legislature, but also threw $30 million to Walker to save his ass in the recall.
Imagine them bringing that kind of clout to Los Angeles.
Well folks, unless someone stops them from buying the Times, that’s what’s headed our way.
