Darth Issa:  Lord Vader, I am giving the Democrats an offer they can't refuse.
Darth Vader:  Yes...  Yes.  They will get caught into a trap and then the Imperial army will come down.
Darth Issa:  The Democrats will join us or die.
Congressman Darrell Issa is very cunning and he always tries to trap Democrats into making a deal in the House which they can refuse and will refuse so long as they are actually Democrats, not wafflers.

This of course is the Keystone Pipeline project that Issa himself keeps on fighting for, even though it really isn't worth that much trouble over and it takes the U.S. in a completely wrong direction given the global warming issues the country and the world are facing today.

ssa Offers Dems a Trade: Back XL Pipeline to Speed Border Crossings

North County Republican links Canadian oil issue to San Ysidro improvements in chamber forum.

Facing a conservative business group Friday, Rep. Darrell Issa was the only member of San Diego County’s congressional delegation present not to give full-throated support for the group’s top legislative priority—expansion of the San Ysidro border crossing.

While Democrats Susan Davis, Juan Vargas and Scott Peters promised to push hard for a White House budget that includes $226 million for the “phase 2” expansion of the massively busy port of entry, Issa said: “I’m not going to pretend that we’re going to do this.”

Issa, a North County Republican whose district includes southern Orange County, told 600 members of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce that if Democrats want the border crossing funds, they’ll have to bend on another border issue—the Keystone XL pipeline to the Gulf of Mexico.

And of course Issa knows they Democrats aren't going to bend on the Keystone Pipeline issue.  Why does he continue to try to propose these half-assed deals?  Why Darth Issa, why?
“You can’t be territorial on import and export,” Issa told the luncheon at the bayfront Marriott Hotel near the San Diego Convention Center. “If you want to get bipartisan buy-in on these trade issues, you have to take the big picture.”

Calling the XL pipeline “just as important to the national dialog” as San Diego’s border with Mexico, he said: “Right now, we’re telling Canada that we will stop the exports of their oil for no particular reason except that we can.”

Right.  We are stopping the exports of the oil for no particular reason except that we can.  Oh boy.   * face palm *

It's wonderful how a Congressman like Darrell Issa continues to give the lamest reasons in the world for the Keystone Pipeline without even paying one ounce of attention to the factual information that is coming out of NASA as pertains to global warming.

Take a look at the Global Ice Viewer that NASA has on its own website:

The big question is not whether Darrell Issa will continue to push for the Keystone Pipeline project but when will he stop pushing for it?

No answer Issa?

None?

Good.  Then the San Diego County Democratic Party should start getting fired up so Issa is booted out of office.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Will Issa profit from Keystone? (0+ / 0-)

Anybody that much in favor of a bad idea, like Keystone, must certainly be in a position to profit from the deal.  Why doesn't Issa reveal his involvement?
It's Canadian tar.  Let the Canadians build a pipe to one of their ports -- either on the Pacific coast or Hudson Bay.  By the time they get the pipe permitted and built, Hudson Bay will be ice free year round.

    •  Issa can't profit but likely get contributions (0+ / 0-)

I think that's how the process works unless I'm mistaken.

Darrell Issa's deal is that he wants the GOP to be proven business supporters in Congress but these "conservatives" as they say they are never really seem to be willing to digest additional information even if it's valid.  Even President Bush during I believer his 2007 State of the Union address had mentioned the need for alternative energy yet Issa still seems to talk about oil production more than he does with renewable energy production.  Renewable energy production can't also be talked about unless you're talking about global warming.

But Issa himself is also got his head screwed wrong.  He voted against the funding for Hurricane Sandy and argued there was pork in the legislation.  If he's so concerned about pork, why is it he doesn't push for a line-item veto to be introduced and passed in Congress?
