We now know the priorities of our Senators. Because they did not like the inconvenience of flight delays, on April 25 they passed the "Reducing Flight Delays Act of 2013."
The bill gives the FAA authority to spend up to $253 million of money already in the FAA’s budget (but not allocated to pay for other things) to keep employees on the job and make sure more flights are on time.
It was passed by unanimous consent, so no senator objected.
Bolding mine.
Hey, I'm all for safe travel. And convenient travel.
But how come this passes so easily, when we can't get background checks to keep crazies and criminals from buying guns?
I know, I know. It's all about the money. There's money in the budget already for this, so why not use it?
Rich people fly. Rich gun lobbies pay.
But if it is about the money, then why aren't we doing so many other things that have been proven to be cost effective? Like letting women have access to birth control and, yes, abortions when they need them. Or investing in education? Or even investing in the IRS? The country would be less broke if we collected the monies owed.
Just a rant. Nothing against the FAA. Lots against our Senate.
