Good morning everyone. Welcome to KosKraft, Issue 4.
I hope your todo list is small this weekend.
As always, if you make things, please consider joining the Group. The more the merrier.
Random thoughts:
1. When I first started making things, way back when, there was no Internet, and only one place to buy supplies, if you didn't look around. But, where do you find these unknown suppliers without Google. Why the telephone book, of course. I ended up buying dozens of telephone books from places like Chicago, and Tucson, looking for sources of things from buckles to tools. Hours pouring through the listings, looking for anything that might be a source, and actually calling them to see what they had. If I was lucky, I could get a catalog mailed to me. Those were the days! I really, really appreciate the Search engines of today.
2. I think most craftspersons have multiple skills. They like to make things, not just from their chosen craft, but any medium will do, in a pinch. I know people that make beautiful crafts, that do other crafts as "hobbies". Always working, it seems...
3. I've just been through the busiest month of work I've ever had. For the most part, I handled it okay. But being the chief cook and bottlewasher, it got a little hairy. There's too many hats to wear sometimes. From marketing, order taking, and stocking supplies, to accounting, and mailroom work, sometimes it ain't purdy.
I came across this picture on my archival drive, and thought I share. Now, the particulars I can't remember right now (happens a lot lately). But the gist of it was that the customer had a chair made by a famous Scandinavian designer. The leather was completely gone, and he wanted to see if I could salvage it. It couldn't be saved, so I had to make all new leather pieces. Came out good, I thought.
Scandinavian Chair
As I said above, craftspersons have multiple interests. One of ours (mrs meagert, and me ) was/is Pottery. Someday I'll tell that story, but for now here's a pic of things we did on the wheel.
A study in Blue
That's all folks. See you next time.
Please sign onto the group. I wanna see Pix!
