It's not every day that an educator comes along who stands so far above their fellows as to completely eclipse their contemporaries.
So it is with great pleasure that the Republican party announced that Agatha Hannigan was the 2012 educator of the year.
For those unfamiliar with Hudson Street Orphanage, it is a model of conservative values and those who truly have been motivated to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
(More on the Flip)
For those unfamiliar with Ms. Hannigan's methods, you must understand that the emphasis at her school has always been to motivate her students. Students work and are graded on a scale that can be only described as "not good enough". This is done merely to help students. There are no "Free Rides" at Hudson Street. Students work, or they don't eat.
This motivation also has resulted from monumental budget responsibility on the part of Ms. Hannigan, who manages the entire budget herself. She has reduced educational outlay by to the point where students actually bring IN more money than they put out, by having the students fund their own education via sales of handicrafts and other enjoyable extra-curricular activities. Of course, Ms. Hannigan has chosen to invest the incoming funds in her school and her staff salary, and that selfless behavior is beyond laudable.
For those who claim that these practices are unacceptable, they must look at the results. Over a period, the average wealth of graduates from her school increased by forty million dollars. Amazingly, to those who would claim that government handouts are necessary, NONE of this money came directly from government sources. Indeed, the entirety of this money came from Hard Working Americans, who develop and profit from the current defense needs of the world's nations.
Ms. Hannigan is a prime example of what anyone in America can truly accomplish if they take responsibility for their actions and their success. As such, the Republican party will be adopting her business model in future legislative proposals.
After all, we can't fall behind other nations like China and Bangladesh, that ensure their children have the motivation and opportunity to earn a living, and not hold them back with coddling and handouts.
