Perhaps it is the spring in the air. Flowers blooming, ALEC going out of control, the MSM salivating and creaming their undies at the thought of Cruz, Rubio and Paul running head to head for their party's presidential nomination. Obama offering to cut social security. Obama offering to cut Medicare and Medicaid. Obama continually negotiating against himself in the faint hope that one republican, any republican, might break ranks long enough to give a little on any topic or any legislation.
Mr. President, let me tell you a simple truth. If the White House were burning down. . . . no, bad example. If the House of Congress were burning down, (including all those juicy lobbyist checks that they worked tirelessly to collect) and you made a public statement along the lines of, "I cannot stand to see people do nothing while such an important institution is burning down. Come, one and all, come join me and together we can put this fire out once and for all."
Sounds like a good idea, no? Doing something good for everyone, even the GOPers who swore to stomp on your political grave beginning in 2009? You'd think that even the GOP would get behind your idea of collectively working together to save THEIR House.
Well, Mr. President, you would be wrong. While you stand there almost engulfed in flames, using a piddly, tiny, under-powered, quite possibly leaky garden hose, trying to save their House, the GOP would line up with buckets, and realize the following:
a. Obama wants to put the fire out and save the House.
b. Therefore, this is a bad idea.
c. Putting ourselves at risk by standing near open flames is simply wrong and unchristian.
d. These are expensive buckets, paid for by the Taxpayer.
e. The Taxpayer wants tax cuts more than anything else in this world.
f. If we dare to get these buckets wet - with WATER, no less, we increase the risk that at some point, these buckets will suffer from rust!
g. A rusty bucket would increase taxes, therefore, we cannot heed Obama's call to action.
h. The fact that the buckets are plastic is immaterial. If it is Obama's idea, it is bad.
What is so effing frustrating is three fold, first, how predictably bad Obama is at negotiating with the GOP, second, how willing he is to throw the liberals and progressives under the bus; and lastly, how his dead-wrong, die-hard supporters will start spewing bullshit like 11th dimensional chess! It's all a plan to outthink the GOP! Trust him!
No. I won't. I can't. Trust is earned, and our president has done a bang up job pissing it away.
We also see ALEC pushing new legislation, which if we lived in rational times, would piss off the 4th Column, the general public, and every thinking voter in the country. But, there seems to be some GOP NeoCon Teabuggered mind meld controlling too many people. It is as though their continuing attacks happen in a vacuum, with nothing and no one there to stop them. Attacks on reproductive rights, voting rights, health care access, (way to go, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana!) and more. Creationism being taught in Louisiana? as a state policy?
Even democrats in the house and senate are grumbling about the White House. But somehow, no one there seems to listen. If it won't show leadership, especially in these dismal times, someone else has to. Someone willing to risk the concerted attacks that Alec, Kochs, and others will orchestrate, simply because they may be rational and populist. Someone willing to work hard, especially in the face of adversity. Applications are being taken now. Please send your submission in to 2pastoragnostic@gmail.net
