is a sentiment I've oft heard from the fine people here when I've posted political ads and advocacy videos. (Not so much the music vids, which inspire reactions more along the lines of "You should get a job").
Seriously, the support and encouragement I've gotten from this community for my video editing addiction has been quite gratifying. Your clicks and views drove the popular response to ads like "These Guys" and "Wink." And, though the respect of this tough a crowd is nothing to sniff at, I go along with the "you oughta get some dough for doing this" faction.
And now, who knows? Maybe I can.
A couple weeks back, I took the advice of a friend and entered a few of my political bits in the Looking at Democracy contest at ChallengePost.
What the hey, I figured. The stuff was showroom ready and they were dangling prize money.
Well, now the submissions are up for public comment and voting before final judging. 428 submissions made the first cut, which seems daunting, but 3 of mine have passed the first phase and just waiting for the comments and votes of...
Well. . . you guys, I was kind of hoping. . .
. . . and your friends and co-workers and family and Facebook pals and Twitter followers and anybody else you can rook into voting. (Don't try and jack the total, though; the FAQ says they can spot ruses to get multiple votes from single people).
The good news: one of the videos, "Exciting" is on the very first page of the "submission gallery" (the one with the capitol dome) so if you vote by "walking through" the LookingAtDemocracy front door to the Submissions tab, it will look "organic" or "viral" or whatever the heck they're looking for.
The bad news: it looks like you have to register with ChallengePost or ID yourself via a Facebook account or something called Github, which I've never seen, but some probably grasp.
So, I'm asking you, essentially a stranger to me, to open some portion of your online self to a sub-sub-branch of the MacArthur people to vote for me to maybe win a micro-prize for making videos (appropriate, that, as they're pretty micro-genius).
The direct addresses of the 3 videos by me, "Louie L" on their site, are:

So, if you've ever enjoyed my vids or my writing or photoshops or jokey comments and said, "Man, he oughta get paid for that," please consider voting for those videos.
And who knows? Maybe I will.
Right off the bat update: Your votes seem to be shifting my vids to the top of the first page. Yay!
