For the last 6 years, our elected officials have doled out money to the wealthy elite in the form of bailouts and tax breaks.  Their hope was that this money would then stimulate the economy by trickling down to the rest of the country.  But the one common sense method that they never tried was raising the minimum wage for America’s working class. Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio talks to Richard Eskow from the Campaign for America’s Future about how raising the minimum wage would help stimulate our economy.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

the term neocon (neoconservatives) means people who favor an aggressive, proactive American foreign policy that sends troops first, then asks questions later (if ever) and overall presumes that America is superior to other nations and needs to play a military role to protect our interests, even dubious ones.

There is no "neoconservative" position on domestic economic issues, though many of the same people would share the opinion you suggest they do.

Eight diaries, eight tip jars the only comments.

Ring of Fire is commenting about interesting material but they are just dropping press releases here to pimp their broadcast.

Wherever and however you can. The single thing that Washington could do that would have the most positive effect on our moribund economy is to raise the minimum wage.  It is an action that takes directly from the profits of the rich, to give to the most deserving of the poor: those who WORK, and work hardest, at the nastiest jobs we have to offer.  And those people spend every cent they earn into the economy, pay Social Security and Medicare on every cent, and raise a disproportionate number of the children.  They are the people our economy needs to pay more, in order to get more back; they are the foundation on which the economy must build.  It's  the right thing to do for them, and it's the right thing to do out of enlightened self-interest -- even for the wealthy, whose short dip in profits would be more than compensated by future returns.

So go, brother, and preach to that Ring of Fire.  And yes, putting it all in the mouth of a non-threatening White Male with a southern accent is a very good way to pump the message to those who need it and have drunk too much Kool-Aid.
