.
..Freeze warning remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to
8 am EDT Monday...
Hazardous weather...
* temperatures will fall below freezing after 11 PM.
* By Monday morning most locations will see temperatures in the
25 to 30 degree range.
* A widespread frost is expected.
Impacts...
* damage to unprotected tender vegetation is likely to occur.
* Damage to the buds and Flowers on fruit trees could also
occur.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
* a freeze warning is issued when freezing temperatures are
forecast to threaten outdoor plants. Those with agricultural
interests in the warned area are advised to protect tender
vegetation. Also... potted plants normally left outdoors
should be covered or brought inside away from the cold.
We've had an unusually colder spring this year with delayed
leaf-out on trees, but temperatures in the last 2-3 weeks moderated to
the point that I would expect significant fruit tree
flowering has taken place, or is taken place in
the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
Because of timing and the duration of this freeze
expected this evening in Michigan, tonight's meteorological
freeze event is likely to be profoundly damaging to Michigan
agriculture. Southern Wisconsin and Northern Indiana, Illinois and Ohio
will probably have similar impacts from the freeze event.
