Ending bought government isn’t asking for the moon, but it might as well be. To citizens who know they have to get the money out, the inscrutable US Government offers little hint where or how to proceed. Washington DC’s clean and dry Greek Revival exteriors contrast sharply with the dirty money that thoroughly corrupts the system.
How to clean it up in practical terms has been a mystery. Where are the gatekeepers? Who are the overseers? A hint may be found in the IRS controversy.
In a letter dated April 9, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) told Crossroads GPS, that it had until yesterday, May 14, to provide a full disclosure of its election campaign finances. Crossroads GPS spent about $71 million in the 2012 election cycle, but it hasn’t revealed its donors, and Karl Rove, one of its founders, vows that it won’t.
Consider the Propublica article published on May 13 and follow the breadcrumbs. The IRS office in Cincinnati, OH sent Propublica a copy of Crossroads’ application for 501(c)(4) tax exempt status. Crossroads stated that its activities would include only a limited amount of political communications.
If the FEC is asking for a donor list, it’s a clear indication that Crossroads’ federal tax exemption is in jeopardy because its activities weren’t consistent with a true 501(c)(4). In the document the IRS sent to Propublica, Crossroads' financials were redacted and the numbers would be relevant. The amount of money Crossroads says that it spent of political communications is a strong indication that its activities disqualify it from tax exempt status.
What a coincidence and how fortunate for Crossroads that the IRS controversy erupted just in time! With the American people rallying for the poor conservative victims targeted by Obama’s IRS, there are even some progressives who will carry water for Karl Rove and the Koch brothers, completely unaware of how they’ve been played.
Chilling!
