I am writing this today, because she is going to go out of town by herself, for a birding trip with some of her family, and to serve as godmother for the baptism of her brother's daughter, and thus will not be here this weekend.
Tuesday we saw her oncologist. The blood chemistry is that she is doing great, remarkably well. The doctor is so pleased she said she would have no trouble with Leaves going off chemo for a while in order for the neurosurgeon to try to fix her back. We see the neurosurgeon on the 30th, and this is very important. So long as Leaves has to wear Gregor, her back brace, she is limited in movement and exercise. Once her back is fixed, she will be able to start physical therapy to rebuild her back strength, and get closer to a normal life.
And that is not the only good news.
Yesterday she got to her office before 9 AM, and i did not pick her up until around 8;35. She worked 10.5 hours, more than the normal 10 hours for which she is scheduled - she even got 1/2 credit hour to offset some of the time she missed earlier in the week. During her lunch break she even took a bit of a walk.
Meanwhile I achieved success on the Canada Dry Bitter Lemon front. One Wegman's store in the metropolitan DC area carries it - in Leesburg. So on Wednesday i drove out and bought 10 bottles, which will cover about 3 weeks usage. Yes, I could have ordered online, but the expense of driving did not really make it more expensive than having it delivered, I was able to buy some other things at the same time and provide my beloved with something she greatly enjoys much more quickly.
As she has worked through her cold, her sense of taste has returned a bit, and she is now able to enjoy a wider range of foods, so we have begun experimenting.
We will shortly be facing some minor decisions. I am being offered a job for the summer that does not pay a lot but is useful and something i believe i will enjoy. It will limit my being able to drive her everywhere, and I may miss taking her to some therapy treatments, although I will try to be there each time she meets with a doctor, and will certainly be there when she meets with the neurosurgeon.
This is getting us ready for the Fall, when it is increasingly likely I will be back in a high school classroom. I had student (sorry typo) sample taught in a middle school, but decided to withdraw from consideration because of believing i was likely to be in a high school. That school got back to me and asked if i would consider teaching middle school for one year and then switch to high school. The offer was tempting, but I am waiting to here on a job being shaped to suit my skill set, and could not in conscience accept before I knew about that, which will probably be next week. I did not want them to have to wait that long and possibly lose another good candidate, when it is probable I will have another job offer at the high school level.
But all of that is secondary. I am able to do plan for work in the Fall because of how well my beloved wife is doing.
Again, we thank people for the concern, support and love.
We love you.
Peace.
