Suzan Delbene is promoting the Pete Peterson "Deficit Solutions Tour" in the First Congressional District of Washington State.

It is a big disappointment to have another Democratic Representative lend legitimacy to the Pete Peterson campaign to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid while shielding his hedge funds from the same taxes on ordinary income the rest of us pay.

Rep. Suzan DelBene invites all constituents to attend her two interactive workshops
where YOU will choose the solutions to America’s fiscal challenges.

These free workshops will feature the Concord Coalition’s Fiscal Solutions Tour
and will give YOU and your fellow attendees the opportunity to share your ideas
on how to solve our country’s fiscal issues, reduce the deficit and grow the
economy by designing your own budget.

The events are free and open to the public, however you must RSVP to reserve
your seat at (425) 485-0085 or
Please specify which event you will be attending.

I hope we can use this opportunity to educate the Congresswoman on just what she is promoting here, and what our values are in this struggle.

Here is Bill Black:

Some lies will not die. As I have demonstrated repeatedly, Third Way is Wall Street on the Potomac. It is funded secretly by Wall Street (it refuses to reveal its donors), it is openly run by Wall Street, and it lobbies endlessly for Wall Street. Third Way, like every Pete Peterson front group, is dedicated to shredding the safety net as its highest priority and throwing the Nation back into a gratuitous recession through self-destructive austerity.

Third Way, like other Pete Peterson front groups, supports privatizing Social Security. That is Wall Street’s greatest dream, for it would increase their revenues by hundreds of billions of dollars. Eric Laursen documented Wall Street’s effort to in his recent book: “The People’s Pension: The Struggle to Defend Social Security Since Reagan.” Laursen describes the Third Way’s leader as a Pete Peterson protégé. Peterson is a conservative Republican billionaire made wealthy on Wall Street who has dedicated a billion dollars of his wealth to his assault on the safety net.

I showed in these pieces how journalists and Republicans used Third Way’s “false flag” status as a self-described “center-left” organization to add faux credibility to their arguments. The Republicans, for example, used comments by one of Third Way’s founders deriding Elizabeth Warren as the centerpiece of ads trying to defeat Elizabeth Warren in her run for the U.S. Senate. Similarly, the Washington Post’s ultra-deficit hawk, Robert J. Samuelson, used Third Way’s support of austerity as faux evidence that even liberals who studied the question realized the need to inflict austerity on the Nation.

I hope everyone here understands what this is about!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I don't really like Obama's austerity-lite polices, but I hate fell blown Peterson lackeys!

Is she the one who beat Darcy Burner?

then I recommend that she join the Congressional Progressive Caucus who has proposed budgets to do exactly that by putting people back to work and growing the economy (the exact opposite of what Peterson and associates recommend).

End the wars, Tax the rich'. My favorite OWS marching chant. Such a non-partisan con. Why in the hell is this our choice? It not even binary, it's extorting your vote with fear of the RW maniacs and then once you pony up you get the same result sans the theocratic vagina probes.

I'm in her district but hadn't seen this. I'm going to try to go to that meeting and make sure progressive voices get heard!

  •  and you are surprised, why? (5+ / 0-)

Her entire political career made it clear this is where she was going to come down.

She is no progressive, never was, never will be.

She was supported by most of the state Democratic establishment

She basically was able to swamp the primary with money.

She will vote for a Democratic Speaker.  She will follow the caucus on most issues, unlike McIntyre and Matheson.

But she will never be a progressive.

That is what we found out just before she bought the primary.  Actually the primary was a three candidate race.  I believe the DNCC brought in a third candidate to assure Darcy would be left out.  Up until now she has issued the standard evasive boilerplate calls for a "balanced approach."  The worst of the worst.

      •  If I'm not mistaken, the 'balanced' approach is (0+ / 0-)

        the 'Grand Bargain.'

I believe it means beginning to dismantle the social safety net (almost all the so-called bipartisan commissions call for decennial 'reviews' of our 'entitlement' programs), beginning with the low-hanging fruit--the Chained CPI--and then continuing to implement the other cuts proposed by the Catfood Commission in The Moment Of Truth, at the same time that taxes are increased, mostly on the working and middle classes, so that the marginal tax rates for corporations and the wealthy can be slashed.

        Nothing 'evasive' about that, LOL!

        Thanks for the diary.

I've noticed that you're following the ACA quite closely.  From what I've read lately, there are definitely problems that have the potential to derail the roll out of this program, if they are not resolved shortly.

like a farm bill or a major state corporation but I am done cutting any slack on austerians.   I will not vote for any candidate who shares the Pete Peterson, 3rd Way agenda because that's how you come up with a farm bill that makes draconian cuts to food stamps.   That's why you have a President trying to cut Social Security a lot harder than he's trying to protect the 1st or 4th amendments.

Earlier this week the CBO released it's deficit projection for 2013.  The national debt has shrunk significantly since Obama was elected.

It is projected it will be decreased to $642 BILLION or 4% of the nations economic output this year. Savings from Obamacare have played a role in that, as well as Fannie & Freddie paying back their bailout, plus increased tax revenues.

The debt is going down, not up. 2015 it is projected to be in the mid $300 BILLION dollar range.

  •  Delberne defeated a progressive Democrat (0+ / 0-)

...who was considered "unelectable" in WA-1. Had Darcy Burner made the top two, she would have found a way to defeat the Republican candidate in that race, who, if I'm not mistaken, made controversial remarks about rape right before the general election.

The Democratic establishment seems to have this mindset that anti-austerity measures don't play well outside of the Madison, Wisconsin area for some reason. That is a badly flawed mindset. I live in Central Illinois and I absolutely despise Pete Peterson and everything that son of a bitch stands for!

The Democratic establishment has fully embraced being the lesser of two evils. The Democratic Party can't simply be the lesser of two evils if we're going to rebuild the American middle class!

If it takes a village to change a state, it'll take a city to change America!
