And the hits just keep on coming from ignorant misogynist and American Taliban freak Louie Gohmert:
At a congressional hearing Thursday on an abortion bill that would ban the procedure after 20 weeks of pregnancy, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told a female witness that she should have carried her pregnancy to term even though doctors had discovered the fetus had no brain function.
The Democrats' only witness at Thursday's hearing for the House's 999,999th piece of anti-choice legislation was Christy Zink:
"I would have had to carry to term and give birth to a baby whom the doctors concurred had no chance of a life and would have experienced near-constant pain,” Zink said. “If he had survived the pregnancy -- which was not certain -- he might never have left the hospital. My daughter’s life, too, would have been irrevocably hurt by an almost always-absent parent.”Ghomert, who is not a doctor, responded that she should have been forced to carry the baby to term because you can't really tell the baby's condition until it is there "in front of you:"
In response to Zink's testimony, Gohmert told the story of another couple he knew that decided to go through with their pregnancy despite learning of fetal anomalies. He told Zink she should have gone through with her pregnancy and then assessed the baby's health once it was "in front of [her]."So why do Republicans require forced, non-medical transvaginal ultrasounds (state-sancationed rape) if there is no way to tell the condition of any fetus until after birth, as Ghomert asserts? No form of medical testing or examination can provide any information. The only time information can be learned is after the birth. That is apparently what this arrogant, ignorant moron is asserting in order to argue for his latest piece of nasty anti-woman legislation.
"Ms. Zink, having my great sympathy and empathy both, I still come back wondering, shouldn’t we wait, like that couple did, and see if the child can survive before we decide to rip him apart?" Gohmert said. "So these are ethical issues, they’re moral issues, they’re difficult issues, and the parents should certainly be consulted. But it just seems like, it’s a more educated decision if the child is in front of you to make those decisions."
If his goal is to drive the GOP women's vote down to 0.01% by 2014, I predict Mission Accomplished.
Dear Louis Gohmert: No one wants to live in your Handmaid's Tale hell-hole. Letting misogynistic bullies and "pro-life" hypocrites make medical decisions for women based on extremist political ideologies. Forcing women to carry a brain-dead fetus to term. Forcing women to carry a dead fetus to term - serving as a human coffin. These people are evil and malicious. According to Gohmert, gun rights advocates should stand up and fight for their rights against the tyrannical, oppressive government, but women should meekly and subserviently bow down and hand over to the state - to Gohmert! - their right to control their own bodies.
