Meh. What could possibly go wrong?
Shine on,
you crazy cubic zirconia:
Donald Trump has spent more than $1 million on electoral research for a potential presidential run in 2016.
Somehow I doubt that, but
do go on, hi-larious
New York Post story that was almost certainly planted as an advertisement for Trump by his various sycophants(
*):
“Everybody tells me, ‘Please run for president. Please run for president.’ I would be much happier if a great and competent person came along,” Trump reportedly told [GOP dinner] attendees. “I’d be happy if President Obama did a great job. I’m a Republican, but before anything, I love this country. I would love to see somebody come in who is going to be great.”
I've got two theories as to what's going on with this strange attraction between the Republican Party and Donald Trump. The first is that Donald Trump is remora-ing onto the unliked-but-profoundly-gullible party base as a last bid for new relevance in a nation that has otherwise grown sick of his ever-irritating schtick. The second is that the party base is latching on to the unliked-but-at-least-famous Trump as a last bid for new relevance in a nation that has otherwise grown sick of
his their ever-irritating schtick. The evidence for the latter is Republicans giving Trump supposed "awards." The evidence for the former is Donald Trump accepting them.
Does it really matter which, of Trump and the GOP, is most ridiculous and hated at this point? Probably not. Just one of those little life questions that help me pass the time, I guess.
(*) A note to younger readers. Sycophants is a fancy word, but like most fancy words you can largely suss out its meaning from context. Interestingly, the word itself derives from the root syco, meaning a crazy person who is bad at spelling, and the suffix phant, meaning "having a prehensile nose that you're constantly putting in inappropriate places." Thus, a sycophant would be someone whose job is to constantly shove their nose up a crazy person's—whoops, look at the time, gotta go. Sorry kids, more fun facts about words later!
