This is my latest LTE. Are Americans starting to tune out the GOP? I think they are and here is why.

The decline of the Republican party can be directly tied to Newt Gingrich and a memo he wrote to fellow Republicans. It was basically a memo on how to demonize your opponents and has become part of the Republican SOP.

These words used as personal attacks are only part of the story. The lesser parts of the right wing noise machine makes up out and out lies about any given subject and the drumbeat begins. Talking heads with no integrity such as Rush Limbaugh take up the lies and then the Republican propaganda channel Fox News takes up the chorus. Finally the mainstream media reports on the controversy. Bill Clinton was accused of drug smuggling, killing Vince foster, being a serial rapist etc. The best example is the swiftboating of John Kerry. George Bush had one of his supporters put up $500,000 to publish a book of out and out lies about John Kerry’s military record to cover up the fact that he used political pull to get out of serving in Vietnam and sending someone else in his place.

They started with President Obama even before he was elected the first time. Everything is blown way out of proportion and no ugly lie is not beneath the Republicans to say. Perhaps the worst is saying he did not care about those who lost their lives in Benghazi. The Republicans cannot understand why the President is still popular and the scandals are not killing him. Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” 30 years of crying wolf has hurt the value of the Republican voice. When over a long period of time you are caught in one lie after another people just stop believing you. Americans recognize a lack of integrity when they see it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

they just can't vote for Republicans anymore.  They are disgusted with the current Republican party.  If they aren't just watching Fox News and listening to Rush and Glenn, then they see what is going on.

If you can fit in a short sentence about how the President's approval rating has gone up, while the GOP's has tanked to historic lows that would be sweet. It is some circumstantial proof of your claim in the title. (About as good as you can get when it comes to circumstantial evidence.) I know LTEs usually have a 200 or 250 word limit.

    Good luck with it!

I would tip you, but the man took away my tips.

Will they reject Republicanism, with its totally free-market ideology?
It is not enough to tune Republicans out.

it's not so much rejection as indifference.  The Republicans need more thrilling and interesting lies, and our Obama is only upsetting a few of us, with his drones and the Git-mo force feeding.  If they were us instead of them, they'd have plenty of things to get excited about, and of course we'd be way more upset if he wasn't him. But they're them and they actually don't care about git-mo or drones, and the other so-called scandals put everyone to sleep.

The Republicans may be boring their base so completely that getting out their vote won't be plausible.

A Republican cousin and FB friend just posted a pic that blew me away, coming from her. I don't know how to post pics here but it said:

If you miss the way it used to be - then tax a millionaire, support a union, and buy American.

She and I have had discussions bordering on arguments about wealth inequality, small government/lower taxes for me but not for thee BS, drug testing welfare recipients, and socialist union "Thugs." I had to re-check to be sure the post really came from her. If they've lost her, they really are circling the drain (I fervently hope anyway).

they still have 1200 or so RW radio stations reaching 50 mil a week with that coordinated lying and it still works well enough that the obstruction is still effective.

the democratic party nor the major left organizations have any serious response to that giant megaphone while it continues to disinform large enough segments of the population to make a huge difference in elections (often decided by a few % points) and media. the right moves the center and it's perceived location rightwards significantly merely because the left ignores talk radio.

until the left seriously challenges the talk radio monopoly there can be no national fact-based discussions on any major issue without the 1% being able to create loud made to order constituencies of idiots living in an alternate reality to scream in town halls, in emails, and on phones whenever needed to intimidate and enable politicians and media.

that dynamic will continue as long as in most of the US (in most low pop states with 2 senators) there are no free alternatives for politics while working or driving.

This is a list of 76 universities for Rush Limbaugh that endorse global warming denial, racism, sexism, and GOP lies by broadcasting sports on over 170 Limbaugh radio stations.
