Not that this will be any surprise to sentient beings, but a recent quick note from the CDC confirms that poverty is bad for your health.
Follow below the orange pasta if you dare.
Among many other vital functions (or, as Paul Ryan would say: waste, fraud and abuse) provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is an ongoing series of surveys of well-being. The CDC does't just monitor outbreaks of infectious disease and accident rates. They also try to keep a finger on the pulse of Americans' sense of well being and perceived heath. This matters more than you might think, as a sense of well being correlates closely with all sorts of things, like depression and suicide rates. Turns out people are also pretty good at judging how healthy they are overall.
This survey of adults over 65 demonstrates neatly what we all I think understand intuitively: there is a very strong correlation between poverty and ill-health. As you can see, for all ethnic groups, there is a very strong link between poverty and poorer perception of health.
One could argue that the best thing we could do to improve the health of Americans would be to confiscate, say, 50% of the colossal bank balances of corrupt Banksters and hand it over to the poor as a 'poverty stipend'.
But that would be, you know, socialism. As opposed to soul-crushing inequality and grinding poverty....er....Freedomz.
