There are two websites that I read every day. Kos is one of them.
Cracked is the other.
It's news and information disguised as comedy. Like The Daily Show, but the presenters are in their pajamas, probably.
Today's great article is called "5 Scary Myths You Probably Believe About the Economy"
The myths and truths are:
1 - China is on the verge of owning America.
No, it isn't. China owns 8 percent of the US debt, but the US owns lots of foreign debt. For every dollar owned by China, the US owns 89 cents elsewhere. It all pretty much evens out and keeps the world economy humming. The writer describes it much better.
2 - American manufacturing is dead.
Nope. Sure China is the number one manufacturer, but the US is second. US manufacturing is breaking records. China builds household goods because they have the manpower who will sit in a factory assembling things for chump change. The US builds super computers and jumbo jets using robotic manufacturing. Even the auto industry is roaring back. (Thank you, bailout!)
3 - Illegal immigrants are killing the economy
Uh-uh. Illegals do work that Americans don't want - farm labor, for example. And illegals pay taxes. Illegals are a net positive on the economy.
4 - Deficits are evil
It depends on how the deficit is created. Deficit spending that puts money in the hands of the citizenry fuels the economy and generates wealth for everyone. But everyone here at Kos already knows that. We don't watch Fox News.
5 - America has a debt crisis
Measuring debt against gross domestic product, the US gets a ration of 73 percent. That is better than Germany, the UK and Canada. Japan is at 214 percent. Now THEY are in a debt crisis.
But don't take my word for it. Read Cracked.com. There is great stuff every day.
