Southern California Edison, owner and operator of the troubled San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station [SONGS], announced today that the nuclear facility is now "retired" and will be decommissioned over a period of years under the oversight of the NRC.
"Looking ahead," said Ron Litzinger, SCE's President, "we think that our decision to retire the units will eliminate uncertainty and facilitate orderly planning for California's energy future."
