Several DKos Asheville members have expressed an interest in making a trip together down to Raleigh to participate in a Moral Monday protest. I don't know whether posting a diary is the best way to plan a trip, but maybe it's a start.
First, I would like to make sure you've all seen MsSpentyouth's wonderful diary posted this morning about yesterday's Moral Monday event!
As a couple of you have noted in the recent DKos Asheville open thread, the first thing we need is a date. So let's start with that; what days work for you, and what days don't. I'm hoping we can find a date that works for everyone that wants to go. Currently, my Mondays look pretty good.
Next, some logistics. It's a long way; and the event starts late in the day. Personally, I prefer to spend as little money as possible; which means I'm leaning toward driving back that night. But that will make for a long day; so let's discuss.
It would be nice to plan to get there with plenty of time to spare. One commenter in MsSpentyouth's diary reported getting tied up in traffic and missing the event. So let's plan to be early.
And let's give us time to stop for breaks!
So we'll need to set a time to leave and a meeting place. (Earthfare at Westgate?)
And then there's the matter of volunteering to be arrested for civil disobedience. While it's an important part of the statement being made, as MsSpentyouth points out, it's not required, and just being there in support of those who are arrested is an important role. If any in our group wish to join those who are arrested, then we will need to plan to stay until they are released. So we need to discuss this as well.
As mentioned in the open thread, I'll be happy to drive (as I don't ride very well). Of course the more of us there are, the more drivers we'll need.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Please share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments.
Thanks,
David
