Back around election day I wrote about the effort in our town to lift the $1 toll from the main bridge crossing the Mississippi River in New Orleans, a toll that helped fund the pedestrian/auto ferries traveling between the East and West banks of the river.
Sad to report that, after a recount and revote, the measure to renew the bridge tolls failed, leaving the question of funding the ferries up in the air.
Well, my friend Grant has an idea so crazy it just might work.
He's started a crowdsource funding campaign on IndieGoGo to gather individual donations, from a dollar to all 3 million, to fund the ferries. Even better, we the people would be the owners. (Ignore the fact that we're already supposed to be).
The idea is so improbable, so wacky, it just might work. It certainly appeals to my own DIY soul, so I put together a quick vid to help.
Check it out and visit the IndieGoGo link. And the next time somebody asks you if you want to buy a bridge, tell 'em, "No, thanks. I already own a ferry."

And... Instant Update: My pal Della Hasselle just published a piece in the Lens on the campaign seconds ago.
