This is a video from my new Internet newscast, the only grassroots progressive media show exclusively about Pennsylvania politics, Counterpoint PA.

In this video, I discuss (and explain a graph from) a new report detailing the devastating impacts that PA Governor Corbett's education cuts in the last few years have had on public schools in the state, including statistics on increasing class sizes, cutting electives, delaying textbook purchases, decreasing tutoring, and eliminating summer school, along with some of my own commentary.

For transcript and links to the sources used in this story, go to http://counterpointpa.org.

Stay in touch on social media on Twitter @CounterpointPA and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/....

Stay tuned throughout this week and next week for three more PA Headlines, The Breakdown which will feature an up-close look at a Democratic PA gubernatorial candidate's positions who I got to question personally, and of course, Counterpoint PA's homage to Keith Olbermann: the Worst Pennsylvanians of the Week.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

This Governor Corbett really cheeses me off and needs to be tossed out of office in the next election.

I just came back down to central PA for my brother's heart-bypass operation which is tomorrow.  And, I've been reassuring him that with the new ACA expansions of state Medicaid he would be able to get health insurance starting in January.

Then I went downstairs to the coffee shop and read the headline of the Harrisburg Patriot announcing Governor Corbett is holding up expansion of Medicaid funding because he want to make it contingent on "work requirements."  Hey blockhead Corbett some people who need this are too sick to work!

The only silver lining is that an editorial implied is based on stupid ideological anti-Obama zealotry.

I like the idea that "we are concerned,"  I wasn't sure anyone noticed how dramatically my participation dropped off suddenly in January, after over six months of being at the very top of the "most frequent contributor of the month."

I am well, but have lots of stories to tell.

I just returned from the hospital why my brother had his successfully bypass operation today.

        I hope to reconnect soon.

        Thanks for asking.

Corbett to only 2/3 of the country average, which of course includes some other abysmal state fundings. On the bright side, fracking companies have virtual tax free status. Hey, you gots to have your priorities in order.

only has greater access to it and therefore better chance of holding on to power. When you look at the census study that everyone's talking about today and look at the effort the GOP is making to destroy public education where minorities are in greater numbers, their goal is clear.

The GOP is willing to do scorched earth warfare to ensure there is nothing, NOTHING left for minorities, including women, etc. They are cornered animals and mare going to push through as much devastating legislation as they can.

We HAVE to let our voices be heard in the midterms. We HAVE to push back or they will dig in their claws so much deeper that whatever gains we make in the long run will be defeated by all the energy expended just to undo what they have done and intend to do.

    •  Honestly, I suspect... (0+ / 0-)

The racial and sexist components are only side effects. Corbett and his ilk have a single over riding motive, profit, and they don't care, whatsoever, who gets ground under their feet, white, black or green.

This isn't defending them - they're vile, and will spare no one in their pursuit of almighty wealth. It's a holy duty, after all.
