After an exhilarating night of watching Senator Wendy Davis and the people of Texas pull off a successful filibuster in the most suspenseful way possible, I woke up this morning realizing how many emotional highs and lows I have traversed through in this past week or so and posted this on my Facebook page:
an emotionally complex week: dismayed about evidence of government as illegal Peeping Tom; furious at complacency about that; despairing about gutting of voting rights protection; inspired by Senator Wendy R. Davis's successful filibuster; hopeful seeing end of DOMA; frustrated by family court; bolstered by good friends.
So many currents running through the days. Processing multiple emotions and planning different pathways.
Seeking grace, so I can flow.
I'm sure that doesn't cover everything, but you get the gist. It's a monumental task being a concerned citizen and humanitarian. I though it might be helpful to have a place to discuss not just the details of those things, but how we manage our way through it all.
How do process the excitement of the DOMA ruling while you're still devastated by the racist VRA ruling? How do you celebrate the #SB5 filibuster while you feel utter despair about the security state we're living in and how so many fellow citizens don't see how this guts any semblance of real democracy? And how do you manage all of those greater world, fundamentally important issues while you're walking through your own personal challenges?
Where do you get the energy?
How do you plan next steps for all the different callings?
How do you prioritize?
How do you link them? How do you compartmentalize?
How do find the grace to keep up the good fight without compromising your own inner peace?
