Thursday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone in IAN to write a daily diary for the group! (HELP!) Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! (Help keep IAN going strong; you know you have a diary or two in you just waiting to express itself!)
Ok, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
It was a very exciting time!! Pete, my long term boyfriend, had tickets and we were going to the prom!! My mother drove me to the city to buy some beautiful jacquard fabric and a pattern and we made a sophisticated and elegant sheath dress in white and baby blue. Hair done, nails done, new shoes to match the dress and simple pearls borrowed from my mom.
Pete's brother had left for the Air Force and was letting Pete drive his Camaro! This would be a wonderful night! Our restaurant reservations were early, before the regular crowd on a Saturday night, and the waitress was giving us lots of attention. If only I could do-over and take her advise!
You see, Pete had a job and we could order anything on the menu. My first opportunity to try lobster! Our wonderful server asked if I wanted the whole lobster or the lobster tail. I couldn't think of any reason why someone would not want the whole thing! It was lobster! She gently tried to steer me away from that unique dining experience, and, if I had a chance at a do-over I would listen!
My first warning was that she brought me a lobster bib, and the lit candle with the butter above it should have put me on notice that this wasn't what I expected. Then she put the gleaming crustacean, nestled in a bed of greenery, down in front of me.
I didn't know what part to eat! I knew I could eat the tail because the tail was its own meal, but, how was I supposed to reach it; crusty and big and uncut. I would have to use my hands to tear it apart! And then dip the bits in butter. With a tiny fork. And hurry it into my mouth without getting any of the buttery goodness of real lobster on a beautiful white and baby blue dress! It couldn't be done!
I ate as much as I could figure out, kept back the tears so my water-based Mabelline cake mascara wouldn't run and waited for her to take the beastly thing away. She returned with the lobster claws in a bag for me, but I gave them back to her, I didn't want anything to do with food that you needed a nut-cracker to to find.
My do-over? Order food that I know how to eat, (and not wear), before the big dance.
There is always a moment, later, when we know we could have saved ourselves from a silly embarrassment, if only we could go back and do it over! What's your story?
