With the Supreme Court's ruling today, this country has taken a major step forward. However, some Republicans have continued to cling to an argument they made in the past that is designed to energize the conservative base--that gay marriage hurts children. Here are two statements made today:
Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), who announced that he will be proposing a federal amendment to reinstate DOMA indicated:
Decades of social-science research have “shown that every child deserves a mom and dad,” he said, adding later, “I think children will be hurt.”

Not surprising, Michele Bachman stated:
No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted,” Bachmann said. “What the court has done will undermine the best interest of children and the best interests of the United States.”

Why don't they understand that what is in the best interest of children is to have loving parents-whether they are gay or straight.
Fortunately, with today's ruling and the legalization of gay marriage in some states, it appears this country is rejecting the views of Huelskamp and Bachmann. Hopefully, soon these types of statements will be looked at in the same negative way that we now look at the bigoted statements about racial minorities.
