(Apologize ahead of time that this is a brief diary, but just wanted to share good news that just came out of the Supreme Court ...)
I have been a bit nervous since last night when the pro-Prop 8 haters (yes, I'm calling them "haters" for short; think it's an appropriate nomenclature) filed a motion with the U.S. Supreme Court to stop same-sex marriages in California (after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted its stay and marriages resumed in the state on Friday evening) ...
I didn't really think (logically) that the haters would be successful, but after what happened back in 2008, the feeling of "deja vu?" was just something I couldn't shake off ...
At midday today, Sunday, Justice Kennedy (responsible for 9th Circuit motions) rejected the haters' motion:
Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy refused at midday Sunday a request to stop same-sex marriages from continuing in California. Without comment, and without seeking views from the other side, Kennedy turned down a complaint that the Ninth Circuit Court did not have the authority to put into effect a federal judge’s order that allowed such marriages.

Although, the haters could still appeal to the entire Supreme Court, it seems quite unlikely that they will be successful -- the author of the ScotusBlog update indicated that "... the brief action by Kennedy on Sunday may have removed the final barrier to the full achievement of marriage rights for gays and lesbians in the nation’s most populous state."
