An unnamed blogger has started a political blog, called "The Real Wendy Davis", criticizing Davis for looking considerably different than she did during the early 1990's, even alleging that Davis had cosmetic plastic surgery in the past.
The blog calls Davis a "human Barbie doll" and a "technologically enhanced feminist superhero". The blog currently has two posts, the first one notes that, back in the early 1990's, Barack Obama looked closer to what he currently looks like than Wendy Davis, and the second one notes that, back in the 1990's, several of Davis's Harvard Law School classmates look closer to what they currently look like now than Wendy Davis.
You may be asking yourself this question: who is behind this blog attacking Wendy Davis over her appearance?
Well, the author of the blog has not revealed his or her identity. However, the unnamed person who is behind the blog likely comes from one of two groups of people.
It's possible that the author of the blog is a fringe leftist-type who is genuinely opposed to Davis for not being progressive enough. If it's revealed that some fringe leftist is behind this blog, that would help Davis politically, as Davis, who already has considerable support from progressives for filibustering an anti-abortion bill, could say that the fringe left hates her in order to win over conservative-leaning voters that she'd need to get support from in order to win if she were to run for statewide office in Texas.
However, I suspect that some Republican/conservative is the author of this blog, and is writing posts criticizing Davis for not being a "true feminist" as part of a plot to turn progressives against Davis. While reading the blog, I quickly picked up on a few of the usual dogwhistles that chauvinistic Republicans use to attack female Democratic political figures. Phrases like "human Barbie doll" indicate to me that some sexist conservative is probably behind this blog, more importantly, conservatives have long been known to criticize Democratic political figures over their physical appearance and their personal lives.
I could care less about Wendy Davis's personal appearance. After all, she stood up for Texas women, while this unnamed blogger is bashing her because she looks different than she did 20 years ago.
