Time for a meet-up, Motor City Kossacks!
I’m going to propose two weeks from today—that is, Saturday, July 20th—from noon to 3:00 PM for our get-together. That time and date will allow our lovely visiting Kossack, tgypsy, to join us. (She still has family in MI and so is here primarily to see them.) I realize there will be some who have other commitments already, and I hope very much that we can make sure to set a good time for you sometime soon.
The problem is choosing a venue. I thought about Ann Arbor, since tgypsy will be staying on the western edge of the extended Detroit metropolitan area—but that weekend is Art Fair. No one wants to come into town unless it’s absolutely necessary during those four days. Parking is hard to find or expensive, and the weekend’s weather is almost always unpleasantly hot.
But Hell is a possibility. Think of the mileage we could get out of that location! Trouble is, I can’t identify any particular restaurant in the area of Hell; does anyone else know of one? I’m also not familiar enough with the area to know whether any local parks have shelters we could reserve for a reasonable fee. (The Metroparks cost $200 for a shelter, which seems too high for us to me.)
Of course, there are also tons of other localities on the western side of the metro area: Ypsilanti; Belleville; Canton…. Please feel free to make some suggestions in the comments, and with luck we’ll get enough discussion to settle on a good place.
As for an agenda apart from hanging out--perhaps we can discuss the MI bloggers/networking session at NN, as well as all the other current activities that we're undertaking in our respective communities. There should be more than enough to talk about, don't you think?
