Interested in taking part in one of the upcoming Moral Monday protests and rallies at the N.C. General Assembly? Want to participate in a Kossack meetup?
We have many fine qualities in Raleigh, North Carolina, but public transit and parking aren't two of them. Some of us are parking near Tyler's Restaurant and Taproom in Seaboard Station and walking the three blocks to the base of Halifax Mall on the General Assembly campus. Here's a Google Map link.
The rally and protest begin at 5 p.m. Some people come earlier, and some people come closer to 6 p.m., because parking is a real hassle until business hours in downtown Raleigh wrap up.
The Moral Monday civil-disobedience action generally starts around 6:15 p.m. or later, depending on the speakers' schedules for the rally and how many have stepped forward to be arrested for singing and praying inside the General Assembly Building hallways.
Those who wish to get information about being arrested can attend a 3 p.m. meeting at a nearby church. Churches trade off hosting these sessions, so check the NAACP-NC website for that information. If you choose to risk arrest by consciously violating General Assembly rules as part of the Moral Monday event, it is mandatory that you attend one of these sessions and speak with someone from the legal-defense team.
Transportation to the N.C. General Assembly from the church is provided, as is transportation from the Wake County Detention Center back to the church after folks are released from detention.
The N.C. General Assembly comprises the GA Building and the Legislative Office Building (LOB). Halifax Mall, where the main rally and protest take place, is the grassy area that lies between the GA Building, the LOB, and several other state office buildings on the block.
If you are standing at the back of the GA Building, the structure over the footbridge and to the left is the LOB. There are some benches under shady trees along the LOB. That's where our group can meet up at the start of the rally/protest.
Afterwards, we can meet up again at Tyler's Taproom. We won't set a specific time for this, as some people may want to leave sooner than those who like to stay until the arrestees are loaded into buses (so we can cheer them on their way to the Wake County Detention Center). This can be pretty late (8:00-9:00 or even later), depending on how many busloads of arrestees are launched from that area.
From the area where the buses are loaded back to Tyler's is about three blocks straight up Salisbury St.
