She, Crandall Close Bowles, is married to Erskine Bowles, he of the wealth-connected cat food commission, AKA President Obama's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform AKA Bowles-Simpson or Simpson-Bowles.
According to Bloomberg, she has also served in various leadership capacities on various aspects of a corporation basically called Springs Global, Springs Company, et al, as an Executive Vice President of Textile Production. She also has been a Director of John Deere Financial Services, Inc. and Deere & Company, as well as a Director of JPMorgan Chase & Co., that since November 15, 2006, as an Independent Director of Hillshire Brands Company, Wachovia Corporation from 1991 to 1996. Crandall Bowles serves as a Member of the American Textile Manufacturers Institute, The Business Council, The Business Roundtable and the Palmetto Business Forum. She is a Trustee of the Brookings Institution and is on the governing boards of the Packard Center at Johns Hopkins, The University of North Carolina Press, The Wilderness Society, and the Global Research institute of UNC-Chapel Hill. She serves as a Member of the Committee of 200, [gasp!] and this is but a sampling of boards and commissions upon which Crandall Close Bowles serves, a list well-larded with worthy causes in order to cleanse her resume.
Ms Bowles came to my attention when I read:
Crandall C. Bowles, a director of Deere & Company and the Sara Lee Corporation, a former director of Wachovia, a Trustee of the Brookings Institution, on the Governing Board of the Wilderness Society, and a member of the Business Council and the Economic Club of New York ...
in an Alternet report entitled:
Meet the Elites Inside the $4 Trillion Global Powerhouse Bank of JP Morgan Chase.
Bowles. Bowles? Where have I seen that name before? Simipson Bowles, of course, Erskine Bowles, possibly a brother to Crandall Bowles, no, her husband, owing to the propensity of the wealthy to give their daughters strange names.
Who is there not to love among the JP Morgan Chase Manhattan etc. elites? Adorable Jamie Dimon! Darling Henry Kissinger who sits on the International Council of JPMorgan! And, that cozy little armful Lee Raymond, director of the Business Council for International Understanding, who sits on the advisory panel to KKR, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and former Chairman of the National Petroleum Council as well as former Chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil, from which he retired in 2006 with a compensation package of $398 million.
So now she's serving on the Board of Directors of JP Morgan Chase. Isn't that sweet? And, isn't it sweet to know where Erksine Bowles' heart resides?
As Bloomberg notes, Crandall Bowles is connected to 62 board members in 4 different organizations across 7 different industries and her annual compensation is close to twice my net worth.
