Like most of you in this community, I awoke this morning to the sickening news that George Zimmerman walked a free man. When I say sickened, I mean that. The news actually makes me nauseous. For those of you that don't follow me- my diary FMLA: Babies are Cuter than Your Ailing Parent-outlines my current situation. I recently lost my Mama, my favorite dog, and am being "transitioned out" of a job that ostensibly promotes workers' rights due to missing too much time from work for taking care of my now dead Mama. I'm at a crossroads. Sickened by the Trayvon Martin news, nonetheless, I had to take the 2 dogs to doggy park this morning. Crossing over a bridge, I see a prominently placed "Thought-Police" billboard facing the Greyhound Station. It reads as follows with the background of a notebook: Recession 101: Chill. Hysteria feeds recession. Mmmm. Knowing the Overton Window meme and how it's regarded as "hysteria", I still couldn't help but think as I drove past it, "Abandon Hope, All Who Enter Here".
First off, I took a photo of the billboard. Someone PLEASE instruct me how to post it here on this site. A picture speaks a 1,000 words and y'all need to see this. To me it said "Don't worry be happy." Be calm and carry on as your jobs continue to be sent overseas.
After taking the dogs to and from the doggy park and feeding them, I left my house to return to take a photo of the billboard. It is located in such a place that I had to park my car a 1/2 block away, walk up the hill and take the photo. There is NO group or name individually "promoting" this billboard. Bastard cowards. Pretty sure it was not there yesterday. It was there today. "Smile, be sheep. No violence, please. That would be Un-American". A bully billboard. A COWARD bully billboard. A 1 percent message to the rest of us. Thought police who had no courage to put their name(s) on the message - "Be Calm." "Nothing to see here as your jobs are shipped overseas". "Accept your fate".
Already ill over the Trayvon Martin decision, well....this stupid billboard made me more sick and more angry. Violence scares the 1%. A billboard like this says, "Be calm sheep".
I posted the sign on FB and my thoughts on it. I called local reporters and left VM messages saying-show me your journalistic skills. I want to know WHO put this billboard up? Why they ostensibly put it up? When they put it up? WHAT do they hope to achieve by their message?
Thought police, if you're going to post stuff like this - at least have the courage to put your friggin name on it. I saw this as an honest attempt on the part of the coward/bullies to inculcate fear and hopelessness. If someone can walk me through how to post a photo of the billboard here, I will gladly do it. A picture says a 1,000 words. Grrrrrrr.
