Maybe I am not seeing what others see, but my assessment of our Nation's condition is very bleak! Need I list the things that make me say this? Do you not see the overall picture? I am a great believer in optimism. I am not a defeatist. However what I see is really depressing! If you need rose colored glasses to stay sane do not read beyond the break. Otherwise let's try to look at our situation.
The republicans seemed to have proven that winning elections is not all that great a means to power. They have shown us that they can stop government from working by many means. It is not that they do not understand the principles our government was founded on. They understand them all too well. That is why they know that by subverting those principles they can win. And, in my mind, they are winning big time!
Force comes in many forms and they believe in force. The Zimmerman episode is a symbol of what they can achieve with force. They arm themselves because they believe they will win one way or another. The message seems clear to me. Have you gotten a different message?
In 2000 they had to steal the election. In 2008 they did not steal it. My twisted imagination looks at this from hindsight and I see a very peculiar unfolding of their capacity to use the worst, most racist, most base aspects of people to make their power more solid.
The whole thrust of recent events, the Supreme Court reversing voters and workers rights among other vile decisions, the total immobilization of the congress. and the use of the fact that our president happens to be non-white to mobilize all the latent racist hate out there, all amount to a counter revolutionary coup that is having great success.
I need not go on but could for pages. We have been had. What will we do about it?
